Contents

Background

  • Detailed Discussion of Exotic Pet Laws, Matthew G. Liebman, Animal Legal and Historical Center, University of Michigan College of Law, 2004
  • The Wolf-Dog Hybrid An Overview of a Controversial Animal, by Robert A. Willems, DVM, Animal Welfare Information Center Newsletter, Winter 1994/1995, Vol. 5, No. 4, via Natural Agriculture Library
  • Rabies -  In 1999, the U.S. Department of Agriculture proposed to amend the Virus-Serum-Toxin Act regulations to add a definition of the term "dog" to include all members of the species Canis Familiaris, Canis lupus, or any dog-wolf cross. Canis lupus is the same species that includes grey wolves. This would allow canine vaccines recommended for use in dogs to be recommended for use in wolves and dog-wolf crosses. The regulations, proposed on September 28, 1999 (Federal Register, (Volume 64, Number 187) [Page 52247-52248])  were withdrawn April 18 2001 [Federal Register, April 18, 2001 (Volume 66, Number 75)] [Proposed Rules] [Page 19899-19900].
