How to Find Cases on the Growth Management Hearings Board Website
Growth Management Hearings Boards Decisions
The Growth Management Hearings Board website offers a digest of growth management hearings board cases for each of the three regional boards. In addition to case summaries, the last section of the digest lists cases under topics addressed, such as "concurrency." Most of the complete case write-ups also are available on the site. To find the complete case on the hearings board's website, follow these steps:
- Select the specific board that heard the case of interest, e.g. Western
Washington.
- Select "Decisions"
- Select the year the case was heard. (See below for an explanation of where
to find the year from the case number).
- Scan the list of cases until you find the title and case number shown in
the digest. The titles in the Central Puget Sound digest have been shortened
and occasionally abbreviations have been used. For instance, KCRP stands for
Kitsap Citizen's for Rural Preservation.
- The following paragraph explains the case number system. For the Central Puget Sound digest, the following paragraph (from the hearing board's web site) will help you convert the short case number used in the digest to the full case number used in the case decisions listing:
The case number (e.g., 93-3-0008c) indicates: the year the case was filed (first two digits - 1993); the Board where the case was filed (third digit - 3 = Central Puget Sound, 2 = Western, and 1 = Eastern); the case number (last four digits - the 8th petiton for review (PFR) filed); and whether the case is consolidated (c = consolidated). Usually the consolidated case number assigned corresponds to the number of the last PFR that was filed and consolidated. The short number of the case is depicted the same way as the short case name - parenthetically and in bold italics. However, only four digits are used to depict the same information just described (e.g., 3308c: year 1993, board 3, case 08, consolidated).
