About Census 2000 & Census 2010
April 1 was Census Day for the year 2000. The next census is April 1, 2010. Every 10 years, the Census Bureau conducts a complete count of all persons resident in the United States. The U.S. Constitution requires a census every 10 years to allocate or reapportion seats in the House of Representatives fairly among the 50 states. The census is also used for many other purposes including the allocation of federal and state funds. This page is a collection of sites with information about the results of Census 2000 and preparations for Census 2910.
In February 2007, the U.S. Census Bureau began mailing informational booklets to all state, local and tribal governments asking for their assistance in providing updated addresses for their communities, part of an early, concerted effort to make the 2010 Census as accurate as possible
