Washington Park and Recreation Special Districts

There are four types of special districts relating to parks and recreation: Park and Recreation Districts (Ch. 36.69 RCW), Park and Recreation Service Areas (RCW 36.68.400 - .620), Joint Park and Recreation District (RCW 36.69.420 - .460), and Metropolitan Park Districts (Ch. 35.61 RCW).

The purpose of this table is to list information about known park and recreation districts. This table may not list all the districts in existence, and some of the districts listed may no longer be active. The list was complied from Department of Revenue Tax Code Areas, Property Tax Statistics, Washington State Year Book, and Web searches. five soccer fields, an extensive playground, a full playground with covered picnic area, skate park, trails for hiking or biking.

The purpose for creating the PRSA to construct and operate a 27,000 square foot Senior Center and Community Center. The 1990 $4.94 million levy failed to gain the required 60% approval vote. Vashon-Maury Park and Recreation District (King County Park and Recreation District No. 2), 1983    King County Code Sec. 7.20.010. The District operates 17 parks, one community neighborhood center, a lighthouse leased from the federal government and a guest house by the lighthouse. The District has an
agreement with the Vashon Island School District allowing it to use the School District&No. 8217;s property for sports and cultural activities.

The existing  Park and Rec District Park Commissioners will take appropriate legal action to transfer all assets of the existing parks district to the newly formed Metropolitan Park District.
Peninsula Metropolitan Park District
Created May 2004
Boundaries encompass the unincorporated portion of the Gig Harbor Peninsula lying within Pierce County, including Fox, Tanglewood, Raft and Cutts Islands, and excluding the City of Gig Harbor, the proposed Northwest Gig Harbor Employment Center Annexation and the proposed Burnham Drive Annexation. The district owns and manages over 250 acres contained within five parks including Sehmel Homestead Park, McCormick Forest Park,
Wollochet Bay Estuary Park, Rosedale Park and Peter's Pond.
Tacoma Metropolitan Park District Tacoma The district currently administers numerous sites including Point Defiance Park, Seymour Conservatory, Tacoma Nature Center, Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, Northwest Trek, Fort Nisqually, Boathouse and restaurant, Meadow Park Golf Course and many more neighborhood parks.
