Healthy Communities
The focus of this series of pages is on healthy communities including healthy people in healthy communities. Objectives for promoting health and preventing disease are being developed for the next decade; see Healthy People 2020. Healthy People 2010, the nation's health strategy for the past decade, describes a healthy community as one that embraces the belief that health is more than merely an absence of disease; a healthy community includes those elements that enable people to maintain a high quality of life and productivity. The underlying premise of Healthy People 2010 is that the health of the individual is almost inseparable from the health of the larger community and that the health of every community in every state and territory determines the overall health status of the nation. Theses pages will provide links to relevant healthy community documents, programs such as walkable communities, and links to Washington local government Healthy Community activities, as they are identified. If you have any additions or comments please e-mail them to MRSC.
