Where did my money go?
I have a typical home in Lynnwood. The County Assessor says it is worth $200,000. So I paid $ $2,563 in taxes in 2001 and I want to know where it went! - -
Well, it went to the city like you thought - - only the city didn't get it all. Of the $2,563 you paid, the city got $447.20 or 21%. And this includes the EMS special levy that you approved by vote. The rest went to:
Who gets my property
tax?
(statewide averages for 2001)

| County | $ 1.4770 | 11.97% |
| State | $ 3.4003 | 27.55% |
| City | $ 2.6949 | 21.83% |
| School Dist | $ 4.5217 | 36.63% |
| Hospital Dist | $ 0.2500 | 2.03% |
| TOTAL | $ 12.3439 | 100.00% |
You reminded me that I also pay a lot of sales tax. What happens to that?
Well, there is a lot of sales tax generated in Lynnwood, that's true. In fact, the Lynnwood area generated over $136 million in sales taxes in 2000! But our total budget is only $30 million. We get only 1/10th of the sales tax. Where did the rest go? With sales tax, it is pretty easy. Almost all of it goes to the state. So, we get $13.6 million and the state gets over $102 in sales tax from Lynnwood! Community Transit gets $9.5 million and Sound Transit gets $6.3 million.
