Nearly two-thirds of voters questioned in a KOMO-TV-Eastside Journal poll support
Initiative 695, which would reduce car registration fees to a flat $30 fee.
Five hundred Washington voters who said they are likely to go to the polls
Nov. 2 were questioned Sept. 29 and 30.
Sixty-five percent said they would vote for I-695 and 33 percent were opposed.
Only 2 percent were undecided. The margin of error was 4.4 percent.
Opponents have warned about a lesser-known section of I-695 that would require
voter approval of any new tax or fee, asserting that it would require votes
on increases as minor as golf course fees.
But when voters were asked specifically about that provision, they supported
it by an even greater percentage than when they were asked about the entire
initiative. Support was 73 percent, compared to 25 percent opposed and 2 percent
undecided.
Support for I-695 has waned slightly since the first KOMO poll on Sept. 9.
Among women, support dropped from 69 percent to 64 percent. For men, it dropped
from 67 percent to 65 percent.
