About This Page
This page is intended to provide an overview of the tools used to determine the impact on the local economy of a new facility, industry, or business that generates revenue. In addition to developing strategies to attract new business, a community needs to know what the costs and benefits are to the community. Economic impact studies are generally done by consultants using various methods that employ economic multipliers. This page includes an explanation of some of these methods and links to sample studies. The resulting studies are dependent on several variables and may be subject to criticism. The citations to reports are presented as illustrations, and have not been evaluated by MRSC staff.
