Are private residence inclined stairway
chairlifts required to be permanently wired? Private
residence inclined stairway chairlifts are not required to be
permanently wired into a structure. These conveyances may be
equipped with a cord and plug. The plug must be directly
inserted into a wall receptacle that is protected by a fuse or
a circuit breaker at its source and is capable of supporting
the additional load on the circuit. The source must be
identified either at the receptacle or at the feeder panel.
The cord must be secured in a manner that will not create any
tripping hazards.
