Exterior wall covering for wood framed
construction. (1) All weather-exposed surfaces must have a
weather resistive barrier. Such barrier must be of waterproof
building paper or asphalt saturated felt. Building paper, felt,
or equivalent materials must be covered with siding as a
protection against damage. Weatherproof sheathing may be used to
meet this requirement.
(2) When weatherproof sheathing is used for the weather
resistive barrier protection, it must be of the exterior type not
less than three-eighths inch thick. Joints must occur over
framing members and must be protected by built-in edge laps, a
continuous wood batten, caulking, flashing, or by an equivalent
material installed per the manufacturer's specifications.
(3) All wood siding and trim must be painted to protect from
weather damage.
(4) Flashing. All exterior openings exposed to the weather
must be flashed in such a manner as to make them weatherproof.
