WAC 246-243-050
Internal inspection program and
training. (1) Each licensee shall conduct the internal
inspection of job performance required by WAC 246-235-084 at
intervals not to exceed six months. Except as provided in
subsection (1)(d) of this section, the radiation safety
officer (RSO) or designee shall conduct an inspection program
of the job performance of each radiographer and radiographer's
assistant to ensure that the department's regulations, license
requirements, and the licensee's operating and emergency
procedures are followed. The inspection program shall:
(a) Include observation of the performance of each
radiographer and radiographer's assistant during an actual
industrial radiographic operation, at intervals not to exceed
six months; and
(b) Provide that, if a radiographer or a radiographer's
assistant has not participated in an industrial radiographic
operation for more than six months since the last inspection,
the radiographer must demonstrate knowledge of the training
requirements of WAC 246-243-130 (1)(c) and the radiographer's
assistant must redemonstrate knowledge of the training
requirements of WAC 246-243-130 (2)(b) by a practical
examination before these individuals can next participate in a
radiographic operation.
(c) The department may consider alternatives in
situations where the individual serves as both radiographer
and RSO.
(d) In operations where a single individual serves as
both radiographer and RSO, and performs all radiography
operations, an inspection program is not required.
(2) The licensee shall provide annual refresher safety
training for each radiographer and radiographer's assistant at
intervals not to exceed twelve months.
(3) Each licensee shall maintain the following records
for three years after the record is made:
(a) For semiannual inspection of job performance, the
record shall include:
(i) A list of the items checked; and
(ii) Any noncompliances observed by the RSO;
(b) For annual refresher safety training, the record
shall include:
(i) A list of the topics discussed;
(ii) The dates the training was conducted; and
(iii) Names of the instructors and attendees.
