2106.1.1 Basic seismic-force-resisting system. Buildings
relying on masonry shear walls as part of the basic
seismic-force-resisting system shall comply with Section
1.14.2.2 of ACI 530/ASCE 5/TMS 402 or with Section 2106.1.1.1,
2106.1.1.2, or 2106.1.1.3.
EXCEPTION:
Special reinforced masonry shear walls are not required to comply with Section 1.14.2.2.5(a) of ACI 530/ASCE 5/TMS 420
(MSJC-05), provided the masonry resists the calculated shear without shear reinforcement.
