(1) The
heritage barn preservation fund is created as an account in the
state treasury. All receipts from appropriations and private
sources must be deposited into the account. Moneys in the
account may be spent only after appropriation. Expenditures from
the account may be used only to provide assistance to owners of
heritage barns in Washington state in the stabilization and
restoration of their barns so that these historic properties may
continue to serve the community.
(2) The department shall minimize the amount of funds that
are used for program administration, which shall include
consultation with the *department of general administration's
barrier-free facilities program for input regarding accessibility
for people with disabilities where public access to historic
barns is permitted.
(3) The primary public benefit of funding through the
heritage barn preservation program is the preservation and
enhancement of significant historic properties that provide
economic benefit to the state's citizens and enrich communities
throughout the state.
