8.16.010 State speed laws applicable.
The state traffic laws regulating the speed of vehicles shall be applicable upon all streets within this city, except as this title, as authorized by state law, declares and determined upon the basis of engineering and traffic investigation that certain speed regulations shall be applicable upon specified streets or in certain areas, in which event it shall be unlawful for any person to drive a vehicle at a speed in excess of any speed so declared in this title when signs are in place giving notice thereof. 8.16.015 Penalty.
Unless otherwise provided in this municipal code, by state statute adopted by reference, or by traffic infraction court rules, any person who violates any provision of this chapter shall be guilty of a traffic infraction, and shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $1,000 for each offense. 8.16.020 Decrease of state speed limit at certain intersections.
It is determined upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that the speed permitted by state law at the following street intersections is greater than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist at such intersections and it is declared that a reasonable and safe speed limit thereat, which shall be effective at all times or during hours of daylight or darkness or at the times specified herein and within those intersections herein designated shall be as herein when appropriate signs are erected at such intersections or upon approaches thereto giving notice of the speed limit so declared thereat.

8.16.030 Increasing speed limit in certain zones.
It is determined upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that the speed permitted by state law upon the following streets is less than is necessary for safe operation of vehicles thereon by reason of the designation and signposting of the streets as arterial highways and by reason of widely spaced intersections and it is declared that the speed limit shall be as hereinafter set forth on those streets or parts of streets designated in this section at the times specified when signs are erected giving notice thereof, but in no case shall the speed limit exceed 35 miles per hour, except with approval of state highway commission.

8.16.040 Decrease of state law maximum speed.
It is determined upon the basis of engineering and traffic investigation that the speed permitted by state law outside of business and residential districts as applicable upon the following set forth streets is greater than is reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist upon the streets and it is declared that the speed limit shall be the miles per hour as herein set forth on those streets or parts of streets as herein designated at the times herein specified when signs are erected giving notice thereof.

8.16.060 Speed of trains within city limits.

8.16.070 Park speed regulations.
When properly posted, the following speed limits shall apply in the designated public parks, beaches and playgrounds owned, leased or otherwise under the direct supervision and/or control of the city of Edmonds:
