TITLE: JURY COORDINATOR
DEPARTMENT: SUPERIOR COURT
APPOINTMENT: This is a non-exempt position.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP:
The Jury Coordinator reports to the Superior Court Administrator and maintains
close working relationships with Court Administrators of the District Courts
and other personnel, outside agencies, and the general public. The Jury Coordinator
works under the guidance of State and Federal regulations, and County policies
and procedures.
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary duties of this position are to be responsible for the selection, processing, calling and management of jurors utilized by the court system in Kittitas County.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
% Coordinate overall juror process to meet the daily court jurors needs including composition of juror panels and attendance taking.
% Conduct juror orientation briefings to prepare jurors for service.
% Work with judges’ jury committees in the development and modification of jury selection questionnaires.
% Receive departmental status slips and contact bailiffs to determine which courts will be deliberating; prepare daily deliberation forms for distribution to judges.
% Process postponements, excusals and transfer requests for jurors in compliance with state statutes, rules, policies and procedures.
% Prepare monthly juror utilization statistics.
% Enter information on computer; set up and maintain files and filing systems.
% Provide information to the public about Superior Court procedures and jury responsibilities.
% Determine the extra number of jurors to be summoned and processed for prearranged specially set cases from other counties when contacted; bill other counties for services.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
% Order supplies necessary to the jury process.
% Provide back-up and peak-load coverage for other staff of the Superior Court as needed.
% Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s Degree in legal field AND
- Five (5) years of experience in a court system or legal related experience OR
- A combination of training/education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skill to perform the work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The person in this position will be required to work in a normal office environment. Hours will be standard some evening and weekend work may be required. Regular attendance is required.
