JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: 

HUMAN RESOURCE ASSISTANT/Chief Examiner (Civil Service)

REPORTS TO:

HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR

Civil Service Commission

DEPARTMENT:

HUMAN RESOURCES

APPOINTMENT:

This is a full-time (40 hours/week), twelve month, non-exempt appointment.

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide paraprofessional and general support to the Human Resources Director and the Civil Service Commission. Perform paraprofessional assignments in the various human resource functions and clerical tasks including responding to inquiries regarding office procedures and services. 

40% (Essential Function)

Perform the statutory duties and responsibilities as defined by RCW 41.14.050.

30% (Essential Function)

Perform paraprofessional/technical duties in support of the Human Resource Office. Interpret, disseminate, and apply policies to resolve problems and inquiries. Conduct and/or respond to surveys and studies. Compose narrative portions of policy statements, handbooks and brochures. Review and ensure the accuracy and completeness of human resource documents such as leave and salary records, benefits enrollment forms and employee data forms. Conduct training and/or orientation in human resource rules and County policies and procedures.

20% (Essential Function)

Provide leadership and support for various projects as assigned; for example FLSA review, NEO program, training library, ADA compliance issues. Analyze and summarize data and prepare reports using computerized and/or manual systems. Answer telephone, resolve problems and respond to inquiries regarding departmental procedures and services; receive, refer and respond to visitors. Establish and maintain Human Resource electronic and manual filing systems. Compose correspondence; proofread material correcting for sentence structure, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Assist in the preparation, compilation and coordination of reports and records. Assist in developing internal office procedures.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years of office experience including two years of increasingly responsible experience in a human resource or related setting OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and ability necessary to perform the work required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in human resource management or related field.

Working CONDITIONS:

Most work will be accomplished in a normal office environment but may include field visits to offices, work sites and projects. Regular attendance is required.
