SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS: |
This position reports to the Board of County Commissioners and maintains close working relationships with various department heads and other personnel, public agencies, and the general public. |

JOB SUMMARY: |
Provide secretarial support to the County Commissioners. Perform a variety of clerical tasks including responding to inquiries regarding office procedures and services. Serve as clerk for the Board of Equalization. |

Responsible to serve as Deputy Clerk of the Board by performing the statutory duties as set forth in the revised code of Washington in the absence of the Clerk. Assist the Clerk of the Board in researching data, laws, codes, and regulations as projects and assignments dictate. Assist the public in locating, interpreting, and copying commissioners proceedings and supporting documents. Serve as backup to the receptionist in the BOCC office. Assist with the handling of initial contact with the public; answering telephone, receive and referring visitors. Schedule and coordinate Board appointments and meetings, maintain office calendar and notifying press of any changes.

Responsible to serve as clerk of the Board of Equalization by performing the statutory duties as set forth in the revised code of Washington. Oversee agenda process and documents for procedural compliance with internal policies and county code requirements. Prepare appeal files; coordinate communication between parties; attend hearings; create record of proceedings and index as requested for litigation purposes. Assist public in locating and interpreting board proceedings.

Perform word processing/typing tasks to produce memos and letters. Draft routine forms and letters and assemble reports. Proofread material making corrections for sentence structure, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Assist in the indexing of commissioner’s proceedings. Organize and index agenda documents; assigns indexing numbers and stamp documents. Assists with preparing documents for microfilming. Assist with the preparation of weekly agenda’s for BOCC meetings.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience in a government or law office environment OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and ability necessary to perform the work required.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated expertise in communications and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to provide high quality service. BOE clerk training and/or experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of role of the legislative branch of government; legislative and administrative procedures and operations.
- Knowledge of secretarial and office procedures; computers.
- Ability to plan and organize work.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and handle interruptions.
- Ability to exercise good judgment as to when to act independently and when to refer situations to supervisor(s).
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work will be accomplished in a normal office environment. Regular attendance is required. There may be an occasional night meeting that also requires your attendance.
