JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the organization's Internet and or Intranet technical functions. Based on marketing and business plans, will analyze, design, and implement technical solutions via the organization's Internet/Intranet system. Will coordinate the content and organization of data with various departments but it is typically not responsible for content development. Will advise personnel or departments on the proper production, technical and design technique specific to Internet/Intranet development. Has experience and skill with dominant applications to maintain and modify the organization's Internet/Intranet efforts including content, graphical and multimedia displays, and communications. Typically works in set production schedules and under very tight deadlines. Has extensive experience in one or more of the following: C, C++, JAVA, Visual Basic, PERL, on-line services, and multimedia applications. Incumbents in this position may be single contributors or part of a team effort.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Manages the City's Internet/Intranet Web Servers.

· Managers and coordinates Internet/Intranet Web applications and projects

· Designs, maintains and documents the development of web pages according to agency specifications; creates web pages; reviews work for quality control and consistency.

· Meets with representatives from City departments to discuss web site project requests; provides assistance to clients as necessary.

· Interfaces with graphic designers to develop complex graphics.

· Implements time-sensitive updates to web site information from numerous agencies.

· Designs and recommends technical solutions based on Internet technologies.

· Researches new technologies for web site enhancements in HyperText Markup Language (HTML), sound, video, animations, and other related features.

· Writes and develops information as needed for placement on the web site.

· Supervises the work of Web site developers, contractors and volunteers.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Works under the general supervision of the Information Services Manager (Applications).

May supervise Web site developers, contractors and volunteers, as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Computer Science or related field.

Four or more years of progressively responsible related experience in web design and software development.

Or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Microsoft Certified Professional training and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer training preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

Considerable knowledge of computer programming theory, principles, and practices; considerable knowledge of current Web related programming languages; working knowledge of office automation and computerization; working knowledge of local area networks (LANs).

Ability to successfully supervise the development of complex software programs; ability to maintain existing software programs and computer systems; ability to troubleshoot software programs; ability to train Web software developers; ability to meet project deadlines; ability to effectively supervise Web development staff; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and employees; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
