JOB SUMMARY

Supervises and oversees the Traffic Signal shop by providing leadership and technical guidance. Provides technical information and solutions to signal operations staff. Develops and implements safe procedures and work practices for employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Provides technical guidance to electronic technicians, electricians and engineers.

· Reviews and approves documentation for liability and performance control.

· Provides technical assistance in computers, video and data transmission devices for special projects.

· Performs installation and training on complex and computer drive test equipment.

· Creates and reviews design of complex electrical and electronic circuitry to be used in safety sensitive applications.

· Manages and approves the budget and expenditures for the Signals Shop.

· Recruits, selects, supervises and evaluates professional and technical staff; provides direction to staff; ensures resolution of problems; sets priorities, establishes work loads and provides support in decision-making.

· Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity, and teamwork.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Works under the general supervision of the Engineering Manager (Transportation).

Exercises supervision over signal electricians, signal electronic technicians and signal repair specialists.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from a two-year college with a degree or certificate in computer technology, video technology, control technology and/or fiber optics technology.

Experience with installation and maintenance of NEMA traffic signals, closed loop computing for traffic signals, CCTV, fiber optics, computers, and electronic circuit design. Supervisory experience desirable.

IMSA level II certificate, Washington State Class B CDL Driver's License and ISLET certification required.

KNWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of video, computer, fiber optics and communications technologies.

Knowledge of video installation and service, computer operation and maintenance, fiber optic splicing and termination and communications installations and repairs.

Knowledge of National Electric Code, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices and the National Electrical Manufactures Association Manual on Traffic Control Systems TS1.

Ability to organize, analyze, interpret and evaluate problems and provide practical, cost effective solutions; ability to juggle multiple priorities; ability to communicate effectively with customers, co-workers, contractors and the general public, both orally and in writing.

Ability to plan, organize and monitor the work and activities of self and direct reports; ability to plan, organize and monitor activities according to priorities, established schedules and deadlines.

Ability to provide leadership, counsel, motivation and constructive performance reviews to staff, securing their respective commitments to the project's goals.
