JOB SUMMARY

Define methodologies, procedures and methods to establish and maintain information contained in computer systems. Takes a lead role in participating in systems development efforts with other city departments; collaborates with other departments on special projects to support the development of processes and operations through effective use of relational databases and other system tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Map current business processes to provide a foundation for defining buseinss activities. The incumbent will use business process maps to develop procedures, models, and operational processes.

· Design information models. The incumbent will identify all required information fields and develop methods for systematically capturing and storing that information in system tables and models. This will include establishing and maintaining record management standards for the business function.

· Provide training and orientation for department staff in the use of system models to extract data.

· Respond to external inquiries for information. The incumbent will works with external agencies, utilities and various government entities to clarify the information request and subsequently work with appropriate systems to extract the information.

· Serve as a liaison between various groups to develop policies and facilitate the implementation of system modules, models and or enhancements. The incumbent works with: technical and non-technical staff, inter and intra- department personnel, vendors and a variety of external agencies or government entities.

· Develop and maintain procedures for maintaining information in systems. The incumbent will research available information and standards for maintaining such information, write procedures, communicate and collaborate with technical and non-technical staff and implement new procedures upon approval.

· Participate in related systems development efforts as needed to provide input and contribute to a comprehensive development strategy. Participation typically involves attending committee meetings and providing a contribution from the perspective of cross-departmental functions.

· Create reports to support quality control and to provide management information. The incumbent will generate ongoing routine reports as well as ad-hoc reports as needed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Works under general supervision.

No formal supervisory responsibilities but may lead or direct the work of project team members as appropriate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS

This position may be found in various departments and be required to focus on a specific system or set of business activities. To that end, each position assigned to this class will have specific requirements in addition to these general ones; however, the specific requirements at the time of job posting will not contradict these general requirements.

Bachelor's degree in specific business function or related field and three (or more) years experience in progressively responsible experience in business and technical requirements analysis, business process modeling, data modeling, database design related to application implementation and serving as a member oaf systems project team.

An equivalent combination of appropriate education and experience is acceptable.

Experience using Windows-based applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

Experience providing methodologies for many-to-many and one-to-one data and business relationships.

Proven experience developing systematic and manual operations procedures.

Experience using specific systems and related technological tools as identified during recruitment will be required.
