The Testing Checklist

First, set your browser defaults to a non-white background and a non-arial, not-black font (in IE, Tools / Internet Options / General / Colors and Fonts). Also, set your monitor to 640x480 (Control Panel / Display / Settings). Make sure you have IE5, Netscape 4, and Lynx installed on your computer. Then begin testing, checking off each small-circle item below (or fill out this Word document).
- Header code
- Title is filled out appropriately (<title> Title Here </title>).
- Keyword metatag is filled out (<meta name= "keywords" content="comma, separated, unique words, significant, tothis, document).
- Description metatag is filled out (<meta name= "description" content="clear, concise description of the page").
- Author metatag is filled out with e-mail address (<meta name="author" content="your.email@metrokc.gov").
- URL metatag is filled out (<meta name="URL" content="page URL goes here").
- Body tag follows template (<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000" alink="#990033" vlink="#990033" link="#003366">).
- King County nav bar code as per template (includes alternate text, link to .map file).
- Footer
- "Update" is filled out correctly and follows AP Style:
- Month (spelled), Date, Year
- Jan., Feb., Aug., Sept., Oct., Nov., and Dec. are abbreviated.
- Text-based navigation bar follows template.
- Disclaimer verbiage, link follows template.
- Links work.
- Content
- White background.
- Fits in 640x480.
- Text is black, arial (headlines not included)
- Text size is undeclared (preferred; exceptions include menus and captions)
- Alternate text for all images (ADA compliances, see this).
- No frames (ADA compliance).
- Tables are composed linearly (ADA compliance; see this).
- Links meet external link ho licy.
- Page size under 50K (add file size and images for total).
- Links to files over 50K contain warning (65K).
- Links to non-HTML files contain warning (Word document).
- King County has rights to use all images and other content.
- Page/site does not violate King County ethics, including preferential treatment, conflict of interest. See the ethics website for details.
- Links work.
- Code works.
- Content works (spelling, accuracy, freshness, etc).
- Test in IE 4 or 5, Netscape 4, and Lynx
