Because of legislation enacted during the last legislative session, all those cities that do their own electrical inspections (less than 30 cities in Washington) need to enact an ordinance providing that they will also enforce the state telecommunications construction standards. See RCW 19.28.450. If you have questions, contact Jim Doherty at MRSC.Earthquake/Emergency Management Info
Local governments in Western Washington affected by the 2/28 earthquake need to take immediate action to assess the damage in their communities and respond as necessary:- Declaration of Emergency - In order to qualify for federal emergency management assistance, each affected local government needs to declare a state of emergency. Here are the King County, Seattle and Des Moines emergency declarations. You can modify the wording to suit your jurisdiction.
- Emergency Repairs - Bidding laws do not need to be followed for those repairs that must be done immediately. Use common sense. In some communities there may be many needed repairs to public infrastructure. Not all will necessitate emergency action. If the repairs are not emergencies, you need to follow the regular public works bidding procedures, to make sure that the project is built properly and at the lowest cost possible. Consider restricting the use of structures if there is any issue concerning their structural integrity.
- MRSC - We are ready and willing to discuss all issues that arise. Call (206-625-1300) or submit a research request. Don't hesitate to call us with questions that come up as you work through this situation.
