Water Use Restriction Ordinance Provisions

Contents

Introduction

This page provides sample ordinances relating to water use restrictions.  Some of the ordinances have water service termination provisions for noncompliance with water use restrictions.  The procedures for termination  should be carefully reviewed because of due process concerns.  Notice to the customer is usually required prior to termination of a service.  In emergency situations, prior warnings could constitute adequate notice.

The Department of Health (DOH), Division of Drinking Water has prepared Guidelines for the Preparation of Water Shortage Response Plans ( 125 KB), June 2005, to help utilities develop short-term water shortage response plans. In addition to the sample documents on this page, see DOH Drought 2005 page.
