JOB SUMMARY
Manages and coordinates activities related to the operation and programming of the City's botanical garden.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Administers, facilitates, and develops policies and procedures.
· Participates in budget development and strategic planning; maintains the sectional budget.
· Supervises staff, volunteers, and contractors.
· Provides staff training, orientation, and evaluation; develops workload plans.
· Participates on advisory boards, committees and teams.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Works under the general supervision of the Parks Resource Manager.
Exercises supervision over contractors, temporary/seasonal staff, and volunteers, as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRMENTS
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in horticulture, natural sciences, business administration, or other related field.
Three or more years of progressively responsible related experience in parks administration, botanical gardens or other related fields as well as supervisory experience.
Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
WSDA Public Pesticide Operators license required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of natural resource programs; thorough knowledge of the equipment and facilities required in a comprehensive natural resource program; extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of maintenance, landscape construction, and use of public buildings and park facilities; considerable knowledge of community recreation needs and resources; considerable knowledge of managerial principles, techniques and practices; working knowledge of the principles and practices of office management, work organization and supervision; considerable knowledge of personal computers including word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and implement a comprehensive community park and recreation program; ability to coordinate, analyze, and utilize a variety of reports and records; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the public; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
